Brazil pledges support for Bangladesh‍‍`s BRICS membership during high-level talks

Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud disclosed that Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has pledged Brazil‍‍`s support for Bangladesh‍‍`s inclusion in BRICS.

Their bilateral meeting, held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday at 4:30 pm, marked a significant diplomatic exchange between the two nations.

Addressing reporters post-meeting, Foreign Minister Hasan emphasized the historic nature of the visit, stating, "This is the first time a Brazilian foreign minister has visited Bangladesh. We had a very successful discussion." He further revealed plans for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina‍‍`s upcoming visit to Brazil in July, a key topic of their deliberations.

During the meeting, discussions encompassed various aspects of bilateral cooperation, including plans to boost cotton imports and reduce trade duties. Additionally, Brazilian investors were extended invitations to invest in Bangladesh‍‍`s Special Economic Zones.

Furthermore, the Rohingya crisis, concerning the plight of refugees fleeing persecution by the Myanmar army, was a focal point. Both countries affirmed their commitment to resolving this humanitarian issue. Moreover, amid growing concerns over climate change, collaborative efforts to address this global crisis were also deliberated upon.

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira‍‍`s visit to Dhaka commenced with his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10 am on the same day. Expectations are high for the signing of an agreement and three memorandums of understanding (MOUs) during this two-day visit, reflecting the strengthening ties between Bangladesh and Brazil.
